Introducing Alberta's newest golf charity, Play Golf Alberta 'kids can'. This charity was initiated to provide the opportunity to children to participate in and learn one of Canada's premier sports. The aim is to provide this opportunity to children whose families wouldn't normally be able to afford it through the partnership of fundraising, sponsorship and local golf course facilities and their CPGA professionals.
Alongside Pyramid Corporation and other sponsors, Play Golf Alberta 'kids can' has partnered with golf courses in 30 communities across Alberta including the course in your community. A local youth group, Kids Up Front, will select kids chosen to participate in this initiative. Callaway Golf has generously agreed to donate a full set of golf clubs to each participant. In order to achieve all that is possible for these children, the golf course in your community will play a key role in providing a free 2009 golf membership and the CPGA Apprentice to teach three group lessons and one playing lesson for each of the three selected children over the course of the 2009 season.
The Play Golf Alberta 'kids can' vision for this charity is that participants will learn the integrity and etiquette involved in the game of golf and potentially explore the possibility of future employment within the golf industry. Play Golf Alberta 'kids can' believes that through the mentorship of CPGA professionals, these children will gain a sense of accomplishment and be encouraged to pursue their goals which could grow to include scholarship opportunities provided through the charity.
"Kids Can" believes that by providing this opportunity through the partnership of local community leaders, it will be fulfilling the age old truth that it "takes a whole village to raise a child."
Mission Statement:
To provide opportunities for children to discover their potential and develop skills and prospects through the game of golf. Through fundraising and sponsorship support, Play Golf Alberta, 'kids can' will provide the golf clubs, memberships and lessons from CPGA Golf Professionals to children whose families may not be able to afford this opportunity.
Vision:
Participants will learn the integrity and etiquette involved in the game of golf and receive the opportunity to explore the possibilities of future employment. Through the mentorship of CPGA professionals, children can gain a sense of accomplishment and be encouraged to pursue their goals, which could include scholarship opportunities provided through the charity. Over time an annual banquet, junior tour involvement and other activities will be developed.
How it Works:
In each of the 30 communities across Alberta, three children will be selected to participate in the program. Partnering golf courses are asked to provide one member for each two memberships purchased for the program. Each child receives a set of Callaway golf clubs, a course membership, 3 lessons from CPGA professionals and golf stuff (balls, hats, shirts, towels).
